By downloading, installing, or using Fud AI ("the app"), on either iOS or Android, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Fud AI is a free, ad-supported, open-source nutrition and fitness tracking application available on iOS and Android. It uses AI to estimate the nutritional content of food from photos, iOS Share Extension images, two-photo Camera + Camera captures, photo-library images, optional meal notes, nutrition labels, text descriptions, voice input, iOS Siri Shortcuts / App Intents, and manual entry. It can also look up packaged foods by barcode using Open Food Facts when public product nutrition is available. It also includes smart serving units such as slices, pieces, cups, or ml when the AI can infer them, Review Food Nutrition lock for correcting estimated calories/macros/nutrients before logging, Review Food What if? previews with optional AI suggestions before logging, optional food log sorting from the Home screen, customizable Home nutrient cards, decimal nutrient totals, activity-based protein targets that can display body-weight or lean-mass equivalents when body fat is set, expanded optional nutrient goals for non-macro nutrients, Energy Burn Goals on iOS and Android, Adaptive Goals for small weekly weight-trend calorie corrections, weight + optional body-fat % tracking with goal lines, average summaries, net change, and history charts on the Progress tab, a Workouts tab with a built-in exercise library (873 exercises with photos, muscle and equipment filters, search, and detail pages), an AI Coach chat with on-demand tool calling for personalized weight and nutrition guidance (Coach can fetch any date range of your weight, body-fat, calorie, or food history when you ask, and on Android can include camera/photo attachments), Fud AI Home Screen widgets in Small, Medium, and Large plus a small-only Fud AI Protein widget and Lock Screen widgets (iOS) / Glance widgets (Android), Apple Watch app and complications on iOS, theme color personalization with matching app / launcher icons, app-update checks from About, bidirectional sync with Apple Health (iOS) and Health Connect (Android), and localization in 16 languages on iOS and 15 languages on Android, auto-selected by your phone's system language. The app uses free Bring Your Own Key access for 13 AI providers, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, 6 speech-to-text options, and Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones as a final on-device fallback for text, voice-transcribed, and Siri food-description analysis after BYOK provider/fallback attempts fail. The app is supported by a single small banner ad and, on iOS, an optional Tip Jar.
Nutritional information, Siri food-log estimates, meal what-if suggestions, optional nutrient-goal suggestions, energy-burn goals, adaptive calorie corrections, weight forecasts, and Coach responses provided by Fud AI are estimated, not exact. AI-powered estimates are generated by your chosen AI provider or Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones when used as the final fallback for text, voice-transcribed, and Siri food-description analysis; Adaptive Goals use local math from your food log, weight trend, and profile. These estimates should be used as general guidance only. Fud AI is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Always consult a healthcare professional for dietary or weight-related decisions. The daily calorie target, BMR, TDEE, and macro split shown in the app are computed from peer-reviewed equations (Mifflin-St Jeor or Katch-McArdle for BMR, FAO/WHO/UNU activity multipliers for TDEE, Hall 2011 energy-balance math for goal targets, and activity-based protein targets shown per kg body weight or as an equivalent lean-mass multiplier when body fat is set). Optional detailed goals such as fiber, sugar, fats, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, vitamins, folate, and omega-3 are separate user settings and do not alter the calorie/protein/carbs/fat calculator. Full citations and source links are available in-app under Settings → Goals & Nutrition → Calculation Methods. Predictive equations carry inherent error (typically ±10% for BMR) and should not replace personalized clinical assessment.
The AI Coach tab is a conversational assistant that reads your profile, weight log, food log, current date/timezone, and relevant meal details to produce suggestions. Its replies are generated by the third-party AI provider you select and may be inaccurate, biased, or outdated. Coach is not a substitute for advice from a dietitian, doctor, or other qualified professional. Do not rely on Coach for decisions about medical conditions, eating disorders, pregnancy, or any other health matter that warrants professional guidance.
EncryptedSharedPreferences using AES-256 (Android Keystore-backed) on Android.Any usage costs for third-party AI or speech-to-text providers are handled directly by the provider account you configure. Free tiers, credits, pricing, and rate limits are controlled by those providers and may change over time.
When you use the app with an AI or STT provider, your requests (including food photos captured in-app, food photos shared through the iOS Share Extension, meal notes, Siri food descriptions, voice audio, speech-language hints, meal what-if prompts, optional nutrient-goal estimation prompts, Coach messages, and any images attached to Coach) are sent for processing. In BYOK mode, requests go directly from your device to the provider you selected. On supported iPhones, Apple Intelligence may process text, voice-transcribed, and Siri food descriptions on-device as the final fallback after BYOK provider/fallback attempts fail; photo scans, Nutrition Label, Coach, and speech transcription continue using the configured AI access path. When you scan a barcode, the barcode value is sent to Open Food Facts for product lookup. Each provider has its own terms and privacy policy that govern how they handle that data. You are responsible for reviewing and accepting those providers' terms. We do not control, endorse, or make representations about third-party providers or public product databases.
Ads: The app displays a single small banner ad at the top of each tab, served by Google AdMob. Ads keep Fud AI free; how ad requests are handled is described in our Privacy Policy. Ad content and availability are controlled by Google and its advertisers, not by us.
Tips (iOS): The iOS app offers optional consumable Tip Jar purchases (from $0.99 to $9.99, subject to App Store pricing and taxes). Tips are voluntary support for development — they unlock no features and are consumed on purchase. Payment, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's terms. On Android and the web, the optional Ko-fi page serves the same purpose.
Legacy Premium: Earlier iOS versions offered an optional Fud AI Premium subscription for no-key hosted AI access. Premium has been discontinued and is no longer offered; current versions are bring-your-own-key only. If you still have an active Premium subscription from an earlier version, manage or cancel it from your Apple ID subscription settings — deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Auto-routed providers (OpenRouter openrouter/free): The new free-tier OpenRouter default model auto-selects the upstream provider that handles your request — currently rotating among free vision endpoints from Baidu, Nvidia, and Google, with the available pool changing over time as OpenRouter updates its free tier. By selecting openrouter/free you accept that the upstream provider chosen by OpenRouter at request time is outside our control and may change without notice. If you require a fixed upstream, pick a specific provider model (e.g. google/gemini-2.5-flash, openai/gpt-4o) instead of the auto-routed default.
Barcode lookup: Barcode results depend on Open Food Facts coverage and data quality. If a product is missing or has incomplete nutrition, Fud AI may not be able to create an entry from the barcode and may ask you to use Nutrition Label scan instead.
Fud AI is open source under the MIT License. You may use, modify, and distribute the source code in accordance with the license terms. The full source — for both iOS (SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin + Jetpack Compose), including every network call the app makes — is at github.com/apoorvdarshan/fud-ai.
Fud AI is a nutrition tracking tool, not a medical application. The app does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Nutritional estimates, BMR/TDEE values, macro targets, and weight forecasts are approximations based on published formulas (Katch-McArdle, Mifflin-St Jeor) and energy-balance math (7700 kcal ≈ 1 kg); they may not be accurate for all individuals. Users with medical conditions, eating disorders, or specific dietary needs should consult qualified healthcare professionals. The built-in workout exercise library is general fitness reference content, not personalized training or medical advice — consult a qualified professional before starting a new exercise program.
By enabling Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) integration, you authorize the app to read and write health data as described in our Privacy Policy. Written data includes body measurements (weight, height, body fat percentage where supported) and per-meal nutrition. The app can also read weight + body-fat samples back into your profile + Progress chart, so external readings from compatible apps or smart scales you've connected (Apple Watch, Withings, Renpho, Samsung Health, Fitbit, etc.) can flow in automatically. If you enable Energy Burn Goals in Goal Settings, the app may also read active and total energy burned from Apple Health or Health Connect to estimate calorie targets while keeping protein, carbs, and fat editable. Where supported, historical backfill imports past weight + body-fat samples so the chart starts populated. On iOS, you can revoke access via Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Fud AI; on Android, via the Health Connect app. Note that Delete All Data in the app only wipes local storage — your Apple Health / Health Connect samples persist unless you remove them separately.
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any damages — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive — arising from your use of the app, including any health-related decisions made based on the app's output.
The app requires an internet connection for AI food analysis, barcode lookup, Coach chat, remote speech-to-text, Android native speech fallback when offline language support is unavailable, and app-update checks. Fully offline operation is possible only when you use Ollama (local LLM), the on-device speech recognizer (Native iOS or Native Android where the selected language is available on-device), or Apple Intelligence fallback on supported iPhones for eligible text, voice-transcribed, and Siri food descriptions after BYOK provider/fallback attempts fail. Offline functionality otherwise is limited to viewing previously logged data, running local BMR/TDEE math, manual entry, browsing the built-in workout exercise library, reading from existing Apple Health / Health Connect samples, and re-logging from Saved Meals. Some Android OEM skins (OriginOS, MIUI/HyperOS, One UI) aggressively kill background alarms; the app exposes a Battery Optimization deep-link in Settings to whitelist Fud AI so scheduled reminders fire reliably — without whitelisting, reminders may be silently delayed or dropped.
We may update these terms at any time as the app evolves. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
